Shirley Anne Jester, 90, of Newark, DE., passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 18, 2024. Shirley was a 1951 graduate of P.S. duPont High School. She retired from IA Construction Corp. where she was an Administrative Assistant. She had also worked for John Rimm, CPA, Strawbridge and Bell Telephone as switchboard operator. Shirley was a member of Holly Oak Calvary United Methodist Church in Wilmington and was a lifelong member of United Methodist Women.
Shirley enjoyed her vacations spent at Wildwood and Bethany Beaches. She loved parades, the Whirled Peas Band, Bellevue Concerts, church choir, spending time with family, and her friends at Spirit of 76 Singers as well as country music.
She is predeceased by her parents Ivah and Helen Hudson; son David B. Bender, daughter Leslie A. Atkins, son Richard J. Bender and brother Jack Hudson.
Shirley is survived by her husband Harry Jester; children Cheryl Wheeler (Jim Brown) and Kelly Bender; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and her siblings, Joan Geesaman, Bob Hudson (Kathy), Kenny Hudson (Pat), Richard Hudson (Pam), and sister in-law, Gernie Hudson.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday March 28 at 11am at Holly Oak Calvary United Methodist Church, 1511 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington 19809. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sojourners’ Place, 2901 Governor Printz Blvd, Wilmington, DE 19802 or to Holly Oak Calvary Church.
