Gentry, Pauline G.

Pauline G. Gentry, age 85, Wilmington, Delaware, died on March 18, 2024 peacefully at her home in Bellefonte surrounded by her loving family.


Pauline was an alumnus of Mt. Pleasant High School in Wilmington Delaware, graduating in the class of 1957. After high school, Pauline held numerous secretarial and managerial positions at Penn-Fruit. She retired from The Corporation Trust Company in 2000. Moreover, Pauline served as Past Madam President from 1977-1978 with the Fraternal Order of Eagles #74 on Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington.

Pauline cherished her family and friends and enjoyed dancing jitterbug contests. She excelled at dancing and she and her husband, Jim, won an appearance on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. Additionally, she enjoyed shuffleboard, bowling, casinos with sisters, boating, fishing and crabbing. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a good book whether it was hardback, paperback or on her Kindle.

Pauline was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Lea Gonzalez, late husband Ellsworth J. Gentry Jr. (Jim), son Ellsworth J. Gentry III (Jimmy) and her sisters Delores, Bennett, Pepita, Hixson and grandson Matthew Butterworth.

She is survived by her children Sharon Butterworth (Mike), Laurie Klein O’Brien (Bill), Joseph Gentry (Darlene), Denise Gentry; sisters Connie Silvestri and Ruthie Ivey; and 8 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 4 step great grandchildren.

Services will be held at on Saturday, March 23 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Friends and family are invited to a viewing at 11 am followed by a funeral service at 12 noon. Entombment will be private at Gracelawn Memorial Park at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Pauline’s name to Disabled American Veterans.
