Walsh, Ann Louise Horisk

Ann Louise Horisk Walsh, age 86, died on March 18, 2024, at Delaware Hospice in St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Wilmington, Del., Ann was the daughter of the late Marion and Paul Horisk. She attended Conrad High School 1955 and the University of Delaware, where she received her bachelor’s degree in 1959. She married John Walsh in 1960, and together they raised five children.

Ann taught first grade at Lora Little Elementary School until she and John started a family. Ann was a founding member of Church of the Holy Child Catholic Church, attending faithfully for over 50 years. An avid reader, hockey card and stamp collector, Ann also enjoyed the ‘Thursday Morning Girls’ bowling league at Holiday Lanes in Claymont for decades. Her beloved children and grandchildren regularly called and visited, enjoying puzzles and Eagles games together.

During Ann’s time at Conrad High School, she excelled in not only academics but also sports, including basketball and softball, earning the title of “most athletic student” from her classmates upon graduation. In addition to her parents, Ann is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John Walsh, and her daughter Margaret Walsh Mauck. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Horisk and sister Janet Slavin, her children Michael (Gen), Susan Boyer (David), Kathy (Nick) and Sheila (Erik); a son-in-law, Lamar Mauck, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ann’s family would like to thank the staff at Delaware Hospice and Victoria for their kind and compassionate care.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 22 at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Rd, Greenville, DE, from 10-11 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
