Stephens, Dennis

Dennis J Stephens of Wilmington, age 79, passed away on March 14th at home. Dennis was born in Trenton, N.J. He was the son of the late Margarite Monroe and late George Stephens. He graduated from Freehold, NJ high school.

Dennis joined the Army in 1965 for his 2-year service and 4-year service in the National Guard. He was very proud of his service in the Army. He was stationed in Germany for most of his time during which he started traveling with his buddies to many countries in Europe whenever he had leave time.

When he returned to home, he joined F&M Scientific Corp which was bought by Hewlett & Packard. He worked for Hewlett & Packard, then its spin-off Agilent Corp for 42 years. He worked on medical and forensic measuring devices and could spot the devices on TV on different programs.

He loved being with his wife of 47 years, Lucy, and traveling together to almost all the countries in Europe, Islands in the stream, and Africa. Dennis will be dearly missed by those closest to him. Dennis continued his love of the Army and joined Delaware Veterans Post #1 where he was one of the original Honor Guards.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Lucy (Richmond) Stephens, his step-son Douglas Richmond and wife Colleen (Murphy) Richmond, and step-grandchildren Andrew and Anna Richmond, E. Zachery Richmond, Jeanine (Richmond) Baeder and 3 great-grandchildren and his sisters: Gail (Stephens) Rynex and Beth (Stephens) Cox.

Viewing will be held on Friday, March 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. A service will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private at a later date in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to “Tunnels to Towers” (T2T.org) or your favorite charity.
