Sherrill, James Sr.

James (Jim) Wilson Sherrill, Sr., son of Horace C. Sherrill (deceased) and Mary Lou Sherrill (deceased), passed away in his home after his long-term battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Born in Wilmington, Del., he graduated from Concord High School as part of the second graduating class in the history of the school. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware.

Jim spent his entire career in the insurance business as a broker, corporate risk manager and product & sales manager for several insurance companies. Jim maintained four professional insurance designations. In 1980, he was recognized by the Home Insurance Company as the first Delaware broker to simultaneously hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations.

Jim is survived by his wife, Wendi Wildman; his sons, James Sherrill, Jr. (and his wife, Meghan Behnke, and their children, James Sherrill III and Kate Sherrill) and Russell Sherrill. Also surviving him are his wife’s sons and their families, Alex Wildman (and his wife, Colleen Wildman, and their children, AJ, Rory and Everett) and William Wildman (and his wife, Emily Wildman, and their children Christopher and Noah). Jim is predeceased by his sister, Ruth.

Jim’s viewing will take place on Monday, March 18 at 10:30 a.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Del. A service will immediately follow, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N Dupont Hwy, New Castle, Del. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested for the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington, Del.
