Maguire, David B.

David Brian Maguire, 94, of East Fallowfield, PA, formerly of Newark DE, the youngest child of the late Michael T. and Eva Rose Maguire, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 29th, 2024 Born in Baltimore, Maryland, David humbly served in the United States Army. As a soldier in the Korean War, David was twice awarded the Bronze Star. After discharge, he married Mary Teresa Buffington Maguire with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. In 1968 they moved to Newark, DE where they raised their 5 children. David was employed by the Dialogue, as well as Blue Cross in Wilmington. After his retirement, he taught history at Delaware Technical and Community College.

David was dedicated to his wife, always making sure she was properly “spoiled” with a gift and heart-felt loved note. He was a strong patriarch of his family. He was truly a giving man who made sure his family was always provided for. He was intelligent and an amazing story teller. He could talk for hours about events in history or sports and of course, his beloved Baltimore Orioles. He was devout in his faith and often volunteered at the Jesus House and other organizations that assisted young men to better themselves. He proofread and wrote resumes, while helping develop their spiritual journey.

David spent much of his time reading and studying the bible and could quote almost any verse from memory with ease. He appreciated almost any type of music and would listen for hours to anything from gospel, to opera and even country. He had a quick wit and was never short with a silly pun that would make the room groan and Teresa roll her eyes.

In addition to his parents, and his siblings, Robert Maguire, James Maguire, Terence Maguire, William Maguire, Margaret Corbitt and Martha Roest, David is preceded in death by his daughter, Eileen T. Maguire. David is survived by his children Bruce K. Maguire (Debbie), John B. Maguire (Connie), Maura C. Maguire (Chris), and Patrick H. Maguire (Yoly); grandchildren R. Jeffrey Maguire (Jennifer), Amy Maguire, Eva Maguire, JD Maguire all of Delaware; Hope Irwin (Andrew), Faith Maguire of Pennsylvania; Aaron Maguire, Joseph Maguire, Joy Maguire and Aubrey Maguire of Florida and 3 great granddaughters.

A committal service will be held Wednesday, April 10 at 11 am in the chapel at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE. Please omit flowers, donations may be made to www.honorflightphiladelphia.org.
