Fielding, Janet

Janet Fielding, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10 at the Country House.

She was born in Wilmington, DE to Leonard and Alice (Slaughter) Shaw. Janet graduated from Wilmington High School and received a BA from the University of Delaware with a major in English and a minor in art. Following graduation, Janet worked as a high school art teacher at Wilmington High. After taking time off to raise her family, Janet resumed her teaching career at Concord High School, transferring to Stanton Middle School, and concluding at Mount Pleasant High School, where she retired in 1998.

She is survived by her children; son Andrew (Janet) of Danielsville, GA, daughter Sarah of Mardela Springs, MD, and grandchildren, James (Juli), Alexander, and Robyn as well as her brother Donald Shaw of Erwin, Tennessee and his children David, Robert, and James.

Janet was a member of The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew & Mathew where she served as a lay eucharistic minister and lector. She enjoyed attending theater and museum functions, walking at Winterthur, and reading, especially poetry. She facilitated a poetry group at the Osher Lifelong Learning Center (OLL!), which developed into a dedicated friend group that continued to meet, reading and discussing modern poetry.

Services will be held at The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew & Mathew, 719 N. Shipley St., Wilmington, DE. 19801 at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024
