Michael R. Harris, 70, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Roanoke, IL, passed away on Monday February 26, 2024, at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
He was born on September 8, 1953, in Streator, IL, to Robert and Neva Jones Harris. He married Linda Hoffman with whom he shared three children. He later married Karen Moore with whom he shared one child.
Surviving are his children, Todd (Andrea) Harris of Roanoke; Jana (Matt) Gastman of Roanoke; Dawn (Brian) Frank of Wyanet, IL; Jonathon Harris of Wilmington, DE; two sisters, Pat (Dale) Barnard of Pontiac, IL; Betty (John) Bertolo of Roanoke; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Nina Uftring, and one infant great grandson, Amos Meinhold.
Mike worked for S&S Builders Hardware in Peoria, IL, in their detention hardware division for many years before starting his own company, Detention Equipment Services, Inc. He was known as a leader in the detention hardware industry and taught for over 30 years helping people achieve their various hardware consulting certifications. He continued his passion for his industry working up to the day he died.
He had a true love for athletics especially baseball. He participated in many hard pitch leagues and tournaments over the years. He always enjoyed participating in the many Roy Hobbs baseball events over the years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday March 2, 2024, at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5-7pm also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Roanoke Township Cemetery. There will be a memorial visitation from 6-7:30 pm on Friday March 22 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE with a celebration of life service to follow at 7:30pm.
