Andrews, Sandra Jane

Sandra Jane Andrews, age 82, of Claymont, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

She was born in Phoenixville, PA and was the daughter of the late Minnie E. (Brownback) and Frank M. Hopple. She graduated from Phoenixville High School in 1959. During this time, Sandra met the love of her life, George E. Andrews, and they married on January 27, 1962.

In 1964 they moved to Claymont and started a family. Once the children were grown, she worked at Hope Lutheran Church in New Castle, DE where she was church secretary. Later Sandra became a church secretary at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where she worshipped. Even after she retired, Sandra would volunteer at her church.

While at Good Shepherd she was involved in choir for over 45 years, the altar guild, and the worship committee. Sandra enjoyed making Christmas wreaths with family at the family mountain home for those loved ones that had passed. She then began making wreaths with her friends for their church.

Sandra enjoyed playing pinochle with her “Card Club” and making crafts. She liked sewing Halloween costumes for her granddaughters. Sandra loved traveling to the beach, the mountains, and various destinations with her family. She took pleasure in cooking and baking and was well known for her macaroni salad. But what brought her the most joy was spending time with her family and friends. Sandra adored her husband, children, and grandchildren and enjoyed cooking dinner every Sunday for the family to gather.

As sweet as Sandra was, she was strong. In 2002, she survived ovarian cancer. Sandra lived with rheumatoid arthritis for half of her life. She invented ways to complete her daily tasks when arthritis made them impossible.

Sandra was an incredibly special person who touched everyone she met. Restaurants, the grocery store, Sandra met new friends everywhere. She had a heart of gold and helped anyone in need. Sandra enjoyed a good laugh and loved talking on the phone to friends and family.

Her husband of 53 years, George E. Andrews died in 2015. She is survived by her three children, Seth A. Andrews of Claymont, DE, Gwyn L. Blanch and her husband Brendan of Davenport, FL. and Gayl L. Pease and her husband Chandler of Claymont, DE; her grandchildren, Lauren O. Blanch (Mike), Samantha A. Smith (Jamie), Connor R. Pease, Sean A. Andrews and Jane E. Pease and her great grandsons, Richie W. Gommer and Luke R. Smith. Being an only child, Sandra will also be dearly missed by her late husband’s siblings, Frank W. Andrews, Margaret J. Legutko (Syl), E. William Andrews and Marlene F. Seyler (Byron) and their families. She is also preceded in death by her in-laws, Richard L. Andrews, Roberta L. Buzzerd, Donald E. and Kathy Andrews and Nancy Andrews.

A viewing will be held on Saturday March 9 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1530 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Lower Brandywine Cemetery.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Foulk Living, Wilmington Hospital, and Accentcare for taking care of Sandra.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Music Memorial Fund.
