Reeves, Delores M.

Long-time Wilmington resident, Delores Ida Reeves, 81, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024.

Delores was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Frederick and Sadie Massado. She graduated from Newark High School, the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in Education and from Temple University with a master’s in Education.

She began her career as an elementary school teacher in Philadelphia, but spent the majority of her career in New Castle County, teaching at Yorklyn Elementary School, North Star Elementary School and H.B. DuPont Middle School as an elementary and special education teacher. She ended her career as an educational diagnostician.

Delores was passionate about helping others. She founded Mission at Home, a ministry of First & Central Presbyterian Church which helps local residents with small scale repair work on their homes. She tutored adults learning to read and volunteered at Planned Parenthood.

She had a flair for fashion, wearing well-coordinated hats, shoes and purse. Many say they never saw her wear the same outfit twice. She also was an avid gardener and reader. She enjoyed drumming, reiki, storytelling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Delores was predeceased by her husband Nathaniel in 2012, her sister Veronica Massado and brother Wayne Massado.

She is survived by her son, Jesse and wife Kanchalee, grandchildren, Olivia and Graeme; two sisters, Lynn Massado and Tara Massado, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at First & Central Presbyterian Church, 1101 N. Market Street, Wilmington on March 16 at 2 pm. Burial will be private. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Crosslands and Willow Tree Hospice for the care they gave Delores. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Planned Parenthood.
