Shinn, Gladys Naomi

Gladys Naomi (Sundquist) Shinn passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024, surrounded by her family at the age of 94. Gladys was born on September 2, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, to John and Eva Sundquist. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

Gladys is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Kenneth Shinn and sister, Edith Boose. She is survived by her six children: David (Martha Ann), Barbara Hudson (Jack, deceased), Karen Lewis (Gregg), Don, Joanne Foggy (Jay), Sandra Grundmann (Bob); her twelve grandchildren and spouses: Andy Hudson, Tim Hudson (Brittany), Katelyn Martin (Brad), Josh Lewis (Deb), Chad Lewis (Khrystian), Chris Lewis (Heather), Elizabeth Shinn, Lauren Baer (John), Jessalyn Foggy, Nathanael Foggy, Stephanie Jones (Joshua), Chris Grundmann (Latesa); and twenty-four great grandchildren.

Gladys’s love for Jesus was a defining mark of her entire life! She was actively involved at Bethel Baptist Church for over 50 years. She also served in several ministries including The Gideons and Christian Women’s Club, and she had a special place in her heart for mentoring other women

Gladys at heart was deeply competitive, especially when playing ping pong and Scrabble! Her home, and especially her Sunday dinner table, was always a welcome place for family and friends, new or old. She no doubt felt the greatest joy when surrounded by her children and their families. The framed sign “Valkomen” which hung always in her entry, was much more than a greeting; it characterized her life.

A celebration of life will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 1217 Wilson Road, Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11:00 o’clock in the morning. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 o’clock.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
