Karen (Serednicki) Meloni, age 59, of Bear, DE passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 2024, as she began her battle with breast cancer.
She was born Wilmington and raised in Elsmere, DE, then in Penns Grove, NJ. Karen is the daughter of Dorothy (Serednicki) Vicere and the late Frank Meloni. She graduated from St. James Catholic High School, Penns Grove, NJ in 1982.
After high school while working for a local construction company, Karen learned the basic skills of bookkeeping and accounting. She later worked at JC Penney’s, Prices Corner in sales and later in the photo processing department. Karen then started and raised a family. Remembering her skills in the photo processing department, she worked for former Happy Harry’s Pharmacy in Odessa. Lastly Karen was the bookkeeper for Enhanced Heating & Air Conditioning.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed arts and crafts, especially ceramics. Many of the holiday decorations were made by her. Karen enjoyed watching movies that were in a series, artificial floral arranging, jig-saw puzzles. She at one time completed a 6ft x 8ft puzzle and had it framed. Karen, more recently, started working on the more difficult “wood puzzles”.
Karen is survived by her mother, Dorothy A. Vicere, (DE); brother, Michael J. Vicere, (NC); 3 children, James R. Johnson, Jr., (DE), Danielle L. Johnson and Edward T. Johnson; nephew, Salvatore Webb Vicere, (NC); former husband, James J. Johnson, Sr., (DE); THE LOVE OF HER LIFE Alexandra E. Laughlin, granddaughter and SHADOW her service dog which was her constant companion. She was also preceded in death by Dorothy’s second husband, Joseph Vicere who was an important part of her life.
A visitation will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington. on Friday, February 2 from 10-11 am, where a memorial service will follow at 11 am. Burial will be private.
