Lutes, William Charles

William Charles Lutes, 72, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Hudecheck Lutes, with whom he shared 49 beautiful years of marriage.

Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late William and Elizabeth Lutes and preceded in death by his sisters Mary E. “Cookie” and Patricia Lutes.

He was a 1969 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School and received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Philadelphia University in 1976. He spent most of his career in banking; where he made great friendships but found his true vocation in retirement. He loved working as a paraprofessional at Forest Oak Elementary, where he is affectionately remembered as “Mr. Bill”.

Bill had a strong commitment to his faith and community; he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Angels Parish. He spent over 19 years volunteering with the Newark National Little League and CYO teams. He was known as “Coach” on and off the ball fields.

Bill lived a full life, leaving his own unique mark on everyone he encountered. He was an avid fisherman, camper, and Philadelphia sports fan. He loved gathering with family and friends to watch a game or sit around the campfire sharing one of his famous stories.

In addition to the love of his life, Peggy, Bill is survived by his 4 children, William Lutes (Kelly), Megan Gallen (Bill), Brian Lutes (Lisa) and Kevin Lutes; his siblings Joseph Lutes (Megan), Gerard Lutes (Beverly), Elizabeth Bradley (Michael), Ellen Chiardio (Bob); and the center of his world, his 5 grandchildren, Adeline, McKayla, Rebecca, Maggie and Jonathan; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends will be received from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. Inurnment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
