Lois “Mom Mom” W. Tweedy, 97, of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away peacefully on January 15,2024 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. She was born March 16, 1926 to William and Elizabeth Wright.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, husband John M., son Sean V. and nine siblings. She is survived by daughter Tanya , grandchildren Nicole (whom she raised), Vincent and Amber Tweedy, Hanna Bova, Emily Derby ,five great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Chloe, Mackenzie, Logan Jr., Jaydence, Zania , and one great-great-grandchild , Kaisyn.
Born in McRoberts, Kentucky, Lois lived in Tennessee, North Carolina but her fondest memories were the years spent in Pulaski, Virginia. Lois moved to Kent County , Delaware in her early 20’s. She worked at ILC Latex in Dover, DE and was proud of working on one of the first space suits. In 1952, after marrying the love of her life, John “Jack” Tweedy, they moved to Wilmington, DE and then purchased property in Hockessin, DE and with the help of her family, built their forever home. Over the next six years, they would welcome their two adopted children to their home. Lois loved being a mother, and encouraged her children to explore the outdoors and appreciate nature, taking them for walks along the once quiet roads of Hockessin. By the early 1970’s , Lois embarked on a short but successful career in real estate. In the early 1980’s , Lois started an in-home daycare, which blossomed and grew with the help of her sister Vivian. “Mom Mom” loved every child that walked through her door. Lois finally retired in 2008 at the age of 82.
Lois had many interests. As a member of the Delaware State Grange, she volunteered annually at their food booth during the Delaware State Fair. Many political candidates would volunteer as well and she was especially pleased to meet our current President of the United States during his first senatorial campaign and has admired him since then . Lois was a longtime fan of country music and was a huge fan of George Jones, seeing him in concert many times. He’ll always be her number one man. She loved watching baseball and was a Phillies fan. . One of her biggest passions was researching her genealogy. Along with her brother Orville, she made many trips to S.E. Kentucky and S.W. Virginia interviewing countless distant relatives and collecting hundreds of photographs . Along with Orville, her sister Vivian, who cataloged the data, and many other contributors, an over 700 page book was published .
Sometimes referred to as Earth Mother, Lois was undeniably a selfless woman. From an early age, she was nurturing, making many sacrifices so others could flourish.Coming from a large family just meant for love to have and to give. Her entire family meant the world to her, her love was unconditional. She was the teller of family stories and shared many on her Facebook page. She cherished all her grandchildren, everyone of them holding a special part of her heart. Hers was a life well lived. She will be missed dearly. Her light will shine through everyone she has touched.

A graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden Wyoming, Delaware on January 22, 2024 at 11 a.m.
