DiGiacomo, Virginia

Virginia (Ginny) DiGiacomo, 96, of Glen Mills, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE, entered into the eternal joy of the Lord from her home on January 14, 2024.

Ginny was born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx. In 1946 she began nursing school at Wagner College (Staten Island), graduating with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Ginny worked in New York City as a Registered Nurse until she met her future husband, Armand, a Wilmington-based senior research chemist at E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company.

Upon marrying, Ginny moved to Delaware in 1954 where she was a nurse for a local physician. Before long Ginny hung up her stethoscope and blood pressure cuff to start a family. She was an extraordinarily devoted wife and mother.

When Ginny’s boys were in their teens she resumed her career as a school nurse for the Red Clay School District in Wilmington, DE, serving there for 20 years.

Ginny was preceded in death by Armand, her beloved husband of 49 years; her parents Mark and Marie (Martire) Christiana; and her five siblings: Felix (Blanche), Francis (Virginia), Rosemary (John), Joseph (Geraldine) and William.

Ginny was fond of Sunday family dinners and grandchildren’s birthday parties around the backyard swimming pool. She enjoyed all sorts of games including Cryptograms, Sudoku, Scrabble, Rummikub and Bridge. Ginny knew how to make people laugh and enjoyed competitions. She also dabbled in pottery and hand sketches.

Ginny is survived by her four sons and their wives: Robert (Kimberly), Stephen (Blanca), Joseph (Sandra), and Ronald (Lisa); along with her twelve grandchildren Jennifer (David), Diana (Allen), Chris (Maria), Blake (Erica), Alex (Madelyn), Kayleigh, Jacquelyn, Olivia, Francesca, Julia, Lily and Adelina; and eight great-grandchildren who affectionately called her G.G. Lorelei, Asher, Margot, Audrey, David James, Robert, Blake Virginia, and Julian.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 26, at 11 a.m. at Maris Grove Chapel, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA. The family will receive visitors at a luncheon reception immediately following the service.

A Christian burial will be private.
