Julia H. Meredith, 94, a former longtime resident of Oakwood Road, Fairfax, Wilmington, died on December 5, 2023.
Julia was born in Dover, DE, the only child of Samuel and Eva Hoekstra and graduated from Dover High School. She went on to graduate from Goldey Business College and then began work in 1949 as a secretary at the DuPont Experimental Station, where she met her late husband, Roy. Julia left DuPont in 1955 and began her long and rewarding career as a stay-at-home wife and mother. She was a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a 30+ year member of the Junior Board of Christiana Hospital. Some of Julia’s happiest times were meeting her Hoekstra Dutch cousins when Julia’s family traveled to Holland and then when the cousins visited Delaware.
Julia was preceded in death in 2013 by her husband LeRoy F. Meredith “Roy” and in 2014 by their son, Todd Meredith. She is survived by their daughter, Pamela M. Cardoni (Aldo); daughter-in-law, Sandy Meredith; 4 grandchildren: Andrew (Megan), Amy (Kyle), Timothy and Kimberly; and 2 great-grandchildren, Todd and Kennedy.
A memorial service will be held at Cokesbury Village at 2pm, Friday, December 15. The family suggests honoring the memory of Julia H. Meredith by sending a contribution to The Sunday Breakfast Mission, 110 N. Poplar Street, Wilmington, DE19801. Funeral arrangements by McCrery & Harra.
