Aleixo, Antonio

Antonio N. Aleixo, age 88, of Wilmington Delaware died on November 18, 2023.

Tony was born in Cumberland, Rhode Island to Portuguese immigrant parents, Antonio and Maria Aleixo. He graduated from Brown University with a BS in Chemistry and went on to earn an MS in Chemistry from Northeastern University. Tony served a tour in the US Army Reserves as a signal specialist stationed at Fort Dix. He worked at DuPont Textile Fibers Division in Wilmington Delaware for 34 years as a Research Chemist.

Tony was a member of the DuPont Country Club for over 30 years and enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He served many years as an umpire and organizer for Naaman’s Little League. Tony was a parishioner of Church of the Holy Child for over 50 years.

Tony’s most precious times were time spent with his wife, children and six grandchildren. He would do anything he could to help his family no matter what was needed. His happiest moments were at family gatherings with all six of his grandchildren by his side. He was an avid reader and always wanted to expand his knowledge especially in the areas of science and math. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to do the same and was beyond proud of each one of them for their accomplishments.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Madeline, of 65 years. He leaves a son, Alan Aleixo (Donna) and a daughter, Gail Aleixo Curry (Bob) both of Wilmington, DE, six grandchildren: Michael, Mary, James, Emily, Sean, and Samantha and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin sisters, Lidia Dennen and Lucilia Squadrito both of Rhode Island.

A viewing will be held from 10-11am on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment will follow mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tony’s name to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or a charity that supports children’s education.
