Morrison, John C.

John Cook Morrison, age 92, was born December 24, 1930, the fifth child of Claire and William Morrison of Glenside, PA. He graduated Abington High School Class of 1948 and immediately began his career with the Bell Telephone Company, for whom he worked for 35 years—indeed, he asked to be known as “a plain old telephone man.”

He was introduced to Rea Renton by his sister. He and Rea married in February 1952, just before answering the induction notice to the US Army. Technical Sergeant Morrison served in Korea in the Ordnance Corps from January 1953 until February 1954 when he was discharged back to a life of repairing telephone equipment.

John and Rea had two sons, Gregory (Kathleen) in October 1955 and Kenneth (Pat) in June 1957; there followed six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

John was a devoted husband and father, involved in all aspects of his sons’ development, going long distances to attend sporting events and participating in many Boy Scout outings. He gave selflessly to many volunteer positions with his churches and community groups—spending many hours with Habitat for Humanity in his later years. He was a skilled woodworker; making many pieces of furniture for their home. He will be remembered not as an effusive man, but as a solid rock, a selfless man of integrity. John joined his Lord, whom he had so faithfully served, on October 28, 2023.

A service of remembrance will take place at Brandywine Valley Church, 7 Mount Lebanon Rd, Wilmington, DE at 10 AM Nov 8, 2023, with visitation from 9 AM. The service may be viewed from 10 AM, (Click the following link), https://brandywine.church/watch/livestream/
