Betty Jo Houck, (April 29, 1936 - October 20, 2023)
Age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023. Betty was born and raised in Glen Rogers, West Virginia, later moving to Aberden, MD, before settling in Wilmington, DE. Betty worked as a waitress at the Chuck Wagon and Hunter’s Den for many years. After retiring Betty found creativity in wood crafting with her husband Jim and friend Cindy, The Barnyard Crafters. Betty was best known for her kind and loving heart, her southern cooking, her pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and the best chocolate cake with homemade white icing. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, bird watching, and congregating with her brothers and sisters at Liberty Fellowship Church.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband James P. Houck, son-in-law Wilfred Duke Kemp, grandson Daniel L. Kemp. Betty is survived by her four daughters, Julia A. Kemp of Marshallton, DE, Donna M. McDaniels and her husband, Greg McDaniels of Smyrna, DE, Angela R. Iredale and her husband, Daniel Iredale of Landenberg, PA, and Lisa G. Kreidler and her husband, James Kreidler of Newark, DE; her 14 grandkids, James (Heather) Kemp, Amy (Eric Cole) Kemp, Teresa Croce, Angela (Michael) Kaczmarzyk, Tonya McDaniels, Alicia McDaniels, Robert Fanny, Alicia Fanny, Christopher (Ashton Stillwell) Fanny, Daniel Iredale Jr., Philip Iredale, Curtis Kreidler, Corey Kreidler, and Nathan Kreidler; 8 great-grandchildren, Riley Kemp, Koda Kemp, Landyn Kemp, Jeremiah Brantley, Kaylee Kemp, Ariella Cole, Mallory Sutton, and Bryson Fanny.
A viewing and funeral service for Betty will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 12 noon in the MCCRERY HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, phone number (302) 478-2204. Burial will follow the service at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Liberty Fellowship Church, 245 Quigley Blvd # J, New Castle, DE 19720.
