Long, Jane-Ellen

Jane-Ellen Long, 62, of Newark, DE passed away on October 12, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Glen Ridge, NJ and raised in Newark, DE. She was the daughter of the late Everett and Ena (Ruddick) Williams.

Jane was a woman of many skills. After graduating from Newark High School, she spent several years working for the WSFS bank. Later, she transitioned her career to the medical profession where she worked as an Oral Surgery Assistant for 17 years before becoming a hospital Patient Care Technician. Taking care of others was her passion. In her “spare” time, Jane was also a Taekwondo instructor, marching band director, and an avid supporter of the Delaware Special Olympics where she coached swimming and volunteered at many of the events. Jane touched and brightened the lives of so many with her kind and caring personality. Her greatest pleasures were spending time with her family and taking trips to Rehoboth Beach. She was a devoted wife, mother, Mimi, sister, aunt and friend. Jane was continuously supportive of her family and always willing to help wherever she could. She was known as a generous and loving participant in life. Her presence will be greatly missed and deeply felt by all who knew her.

Jane is survived by her husband of over 32 years Robert B. Long; her daughters: Christine Dower (Eddie) and Robin Long; her sons: Kenny Matthews (Christie) and Tim Long (Abby); her step-daughter Jennifer Grant; her grandchildren: Madelinn Matthews, Hayden Long, Brynn Long, Kaylinn Jackson, Michael Jackson, and Bradley Pankowski; her sisters Nancy McCarthy (Guy) and Barbara Williams; her brothers Mark Williams and Jim Williams (Laurie); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

We will celebrate Jane’s life on October 22, 2023, at Richardson Park UMC, 11 N Maryland Ave, Wilmington, DE19804. A visitation will begin at 1pm with a Memorial Service following at 2 pm. Burial will be held privately.
