Richard W. Jorgensen, 85, of Wilmington, DE passed away on October 2, 2023. He was born in Penn Yan, NY to the late Leland and Mary Jorgensen. He was a veteran and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Richard was a 1962 graduate of Alfred University and went on to be the Executive Director at both the American Heart Association for 25 years and the Y.M.C.A. in Elkton, MD. for 11 years.
He was past president of Brandywine Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Richard was also very active in his sons sports organizations. His interests included grilling, gardening, woodworking, Corvettes and the swimming pool.
Richard is survived by his loving family, wife Mary Lou (Beaver) of 61 years; sons, Garth and Todd (Michelle); grandchildren, Regan, Lexi, Peyton, Dylan, 5 great grandchildren and sisters, Shirley Roe (Paul) and Marilee Bailey (Dan).
Richard was preceded in death by his brother Ronald (Frances);
A visitation will be held on Monday October 9, from 10-11am followed by a service at 11am at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike Wilmington, DE 19803. Burial at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery will be private. The family suggests casual attire. (No jeans please). In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice.
