Douglas L. Mayhew, 81, passed away suddenly on September 22, 2023, at Christiana Hospital. Doug was born at home in Pennsville, NJ, and graduated from Pennsville High School and Goldey-Beacom College. He was employed by DuPont Chambers Works in Deepwater, NJ, for 37 years as a lab technician. After his retirement, Doug enjoyed volunteering with the Appalachian Service Project, 4-H, St. Mark’s Food Closet and St. Mark’s Preschool. He loved spending time with his three grandchildren, as well as going to the beach, walking at state parks, and cheering on Philadelphia’s sports teams.
Doug is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy; three children: Sandra Jones, Lori Stone (Michael) and Derek Mayhew (girlfriend, Jennifer Tibbits, and her daughter, Emily); two grandchildren: Abigail Jones (Wyatt) and Ryan Stone; brothers: Kenneth Mayhew (Catherine), Eric Mayhew (Frances) and Eugene Mayhew (Carol); in-laws: Robert Eastburn (Lia), Betty Ann Nesci (Dominic) and Ronald Eastburn (Pamela) as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Rebecca Mayhew; sister, Audrey Sayers; brother-in-law, Robert Sayers and grandson, Scott Jones.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19804. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am, followed immediately by the service at 11:00 am. Burial will be held privately.
