James Aten Hoosty, age 77, born in Berwick, PA, died of pancreatic cancer on Saturday, September 23, 2023, after a long and healthy life.
He is survived by his wife Robbie, seven children: James C. Hoosty (Kyle), Michelle Hoosty (Pat), Megan Rowland, David MacDonna IV (Janet), Ashley Murry (Jamie), Liam MacDonna (Rowan) and Lindsey Hoosty, ten precious grandchildren, and a brother Joseph R. Hoosty (Kay) in Hot Springs Village, AR.
James graduated from Berwick High School, Bloomsburg State College, PA (B.S.), and Montclair State University, NJ (M.S.) He taught high school English in Cranford, NJ, for six years, was an advisor/guidance counselor at Glasgow High School, DE, for thirty years, and enjoyed many activities during his working life and since his retirement in 2003.
He would like those left behind to remember his favorite quotation by William Wordsworth that reflects his view of life: “Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendour in the grass, glory in the flower, we will grieve not, rather find strength in what lies behind.” For those who crossed his path, celebrate his life in the memories that you shared with him.
Following his cremation, there will be a visitation beginning at 3:30 pm at McCrery and Harra Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington on Saturday October 7 where a Celebration of Life will follow at 5 pm. After the service, there will be light refreshments served at the funeral home for further fellowship. In honor of Jim, the family request bright clothing be worn. No perfume/cologne please- due to an anaphylactic allergy.
