Elizabeth P. “Betsy” Rushie, age 85, of Wilmington, DE passed away with loved ones by her side on September 21, 2023.
She was born and raised in Wilmington and was the daughter of the late Camillia (Van Houten) and Ralph Plowman. Betsy graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1956.
After high school she started working for Wanamakers where she met “in china” the love of her life, Peter Rushie. They married in 1958 and started a family. After the children had grown, Betsy began working for the family business, PD Supply, as the credit manager for over 15 years retiring in 2019.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and while her children attended the school, she volunteered for many activities. She enjoyed playing mahjong with her long-time group of friends. Bringing the most joy to Betsy was spending her summers at Lewes Beach and enjoying many barbeques with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Peter J. Jr.; 4 children, Peter J. III, Jeff (Victoria), Lori Ann and Kate Catalano (Rick); 5 grandchildren, Shelby and Jake Rushie (Christina) and Nick (Lexi), Krysti (Dylan Green) and Michael Catalano and 3 great grandchildren, Benjamin and Avery Rushie and Emilia Catalano. Betsy is also preceded in death by her 3 siblings.
A viewing will begin at 10 am on Wednesday, September 27, followed by a celebration of life at 12 noon at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Ronald McDonald House, 1901 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
