Hough, John Phillip

John Phillip Hough, passed away on September 12, 2023. One of nine children of Robert and Winifred Hough, John was born and raised on the family farm in Scottdale, PA. As a young man, he continued to work on the farm until he moved to Delaware when he was in his early twenties. John then spent his working career as a groundskeeper on the Winterthur farm, and lived on the Estate in a house on Adams Dam Road. While working at Winterthur, John was proud to volunteer as a fireman for the Winterthur Museum Fire Brigade, Station 38. John was an avid bowler, and enjoyed a good after dinner cigar.

His wife, Dorothy, died in 2014, and he is survived by their four children: Phil Hough (Karen), Cynthia S. Swezey, Sherri L. Hough, and Mark A. Hough (Kelly); three siblings: Joan McIntyre (Lloyd), Walter Hough (Elaine), and Margaret Roble (Ben); and six grandchildren: Patrick E. Hough, Amanda L. Insley, Kyalami Swezey, Griffith Swezey, Mark Hough, Jr., and Lexie Hough.

In addition to his wife, John is preceded in death by five siblings: Ellen Fox (David), Daniel Hough (Chris), James Hough (Rita), L. Richard Hough (Gladys), and Gene Hough. Service and burial will be held privately. To send a message of condolence to the family visit www.mccreryandharra.com.
