Meredith, Rhonda Smith

Rhonda Smith Meredith, 57, of Wilmington DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Faulkland Woods, on Thursday, September 7th. Rhonda was born on February 20th, 1966, in Bridgeton, NJ, to the late Richard & Ellen Smith (Cossaboon) of Millville, NJ. Rhonda is survived by her devoted husband David Meredith; two sons James and Jared Lance and daughter Jenna Lance; two two-step sons, Dylan Meredith and Kyle Meredith; and step daughter Gwen Meredith; sister Debbie Smith Baumgarten, and nephew Bobby Harold of Verona, NJ.; And many extended family and friends.

Rhonda Meredith graduated high school from Millville High, and received an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Cumberland County College, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain School of Nursing. Rhonda’s nursing career spanned 35 years. Rhonda was a nurse’s nurse. She began her career in Home Care Nursing at Kessler Memorial Hospital. Later she worked in Home Care in Cumberland County, NJ, and Marketing Home Care and Hospice Service for what was formerly known as South Jersey Healthcare Home Care and Hospice– now known as Inspira Health Network. Rhonda met Dave in 2010 and moved to Delaware in 2011. She retired as Director of ACO Care Management at Saint Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE. During those productive years she mentored many young nurses and held positions of leadership that she excelled in. She loved her nurses like family and they loved her back. She really was a patient advocate, dedicating herself to providing exceptional patient care.

Rhonda enjoyed running, exercising and hiking with her husband and family. She loved dining out and trying new restaurants and listening to live music. Her family was most important to Rhonda and she loved her vacations with family and friends spent in Dewey Beach, DE. She often traveled to Florida and loved the Treasure Coast.

Rhonda fought a stage 4 Uterine Leiomyosarcoma for over 8 years. She helped numerous other patients navigate this horrible diagnosis. She enjoyed participating in fundraising events that raise money and awareness for her disease. She fought bravely and when the disease took over, leaving no more chance to fight, she chose home hospice.
