Genevieve Sara Mastriana

Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmom, Sister, Aunt, Friend

Genevieve “Jenny” Sara Mastriana, 85, of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Jenny was born to Bernard and Isabel McCawley of Pittston, Pennsylvania, on August 1, 1938. Jenny was the youngest of 3 siblings, including her brother, John, and sister, Isabel, with whom she had an inseparable relationship.

Jenny married the love of her life, best friend, and most devoted husband, John J. Mastriana, Jr., who could always be found by her side. Recently celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 27th, Jenny and John’s bond is an essential example of true love. Always together, building a lifetime of fond memories, sharing many laughs along the way, and raising four wonderful children who have grown up surrounded and guided by their love and strong family values.

Both having a background in property management, John and Jenny worked together for many years, successfully operating the family business Mastriana Property Management, Inc.

Jenny was a devout Catholic and enjoyed reading, sewing, ceramics, cooking, and making sure every family event was a special one. Jenny also delighted in trying her luck at the penny machines and, often, generously sharing her winnings. Many memorable summer vacations and holidays were spent at their place at the Jersey Shore in Ocean City, NJ, a tradition Jenny continued so that she could share the joy of the boardwalk and beach with her eight grandchildren.

The simplest pleasures in life brought Jenny great joy, and smiles came easily when she was in the company of her family and friends. Everyone continuously felt Jenny’s outgoing and welcoming personality, and she was the light and life of every gathering, including many family picnics and celebrations at her loving home in Delaware, and while visiting with extended family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Jenny regularly hosted delicious home-cooked dinners where her table was always filled with family and open to receive any extra guests, extending beyond the family to ensure everyone was included and no one was alone, especially during the holidays. No matter the occasion, as long as the family was together, Jenny was filled with happiness and joy. Many laughs, jokes, and stories were shared, and the memories will always be treasured.

In addition to being a wonderful wife, Jenny was an outstanding mother and grandmom. Jenny will be remembered for her unwavering love and pride for her children and grandchildren. Jenny could be counted on whenever anyone was in need and always took time to listen with patience and lend her advice and support when needed. Jenny will be missed tremendously by her loving husband, John J. Mastriana, Jr.; daughter, Jeannine Hohman of Lititz, PA; three sons, Jon and his wife Kimberly of Chadds Ford, PA; Joe and his wife Jessie of Lewes, DE, and Jason and his wife Rebecca of Newark, DE, as well as her eight beloved grandchildren, JD, Nick, Ryan, Brendan, Madison, Daisy, Mia, and Brayden.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Isabel McCawley; brother, John McCawley; sister, Isabel McCawley; son-in-law, John Hohman; and Niece, Cynthia DeLorenzo.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jenny’s beautiful life on Friday, September 15, 2023, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., with a memorial service at noon.
