Cebenka, Michael Joshua

Michael Joshua Cebenka, age 45, passed away suddenly on Sept 6th 2023.

He was born on March 10th, 1978 in Wilmington Delaware. He was a graduate of Salesianum High School in 1996 where he was a member of the Varsity Lacrosse and Football teams. After graduation he attended the University of Lynchburg, VA where he majored in Mass Communications.

Michael was a talented artist, gifted athlete, loved everything Patagonia, and had a wonderful sense of humor. But, one of his greatest joys in life was music. Though he appreciated all genres, he had a special affinity for music by the Grateful Dead and Phish. One of his favorite lyrics and possibly motto in life, was ‘If you get confused, listen to the music play.’

In addition to music, Michael loved all animals. He had a special connection to them, particularly dogs. For a time , he helped rescue and rehabilitate dogs at a local shelter, but he would always say it was the dogs who rescued him.

Michael had immense compassion. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He was a friend to everyone and never knew a stranger. He touched many people and his light and love will be missed by all.

Michael is survived by his father, Michael Cebenka, step-mother, Donna Cebenka, sister, Amanda Jones (husband Al Jones) nephew and nieces, Jeremy, Kasey and Jenna, his dearest aunt, Jackie Pyle, his long-time girlfriend, Kristy Husbands, and countless aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and best friend, Deb Cebenka.
