Susan S. Lawson, age 86, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023 at her home, with her loving husband by her side.
Born to Basil and Lola Sumner in Rising Sun, MD, Susie has lived in Wilmington, DE for over 50 years. In addition to her parents, Susie is preceded in death by sisters, Marjorie Herr, Audrey Schurr, Irene Martin, Dixie Balbi, Betty Eshelman, Julia Samuels, and brothers, Bob, Willard, and Howard.
She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Lawson, niece and loving caregiver, Dawn Eshelman McClintock, nephew, Steven Samuels, his wife Colleen and their two sons, Chandler and Austin, nephew Jeffrey Holmes and partner Mike Pritchett as well as many other nieces and nephews across the country, and many friends.
Susie retired from DuPont in 1993, after a 38-year career as an executive assistant. She and Bobby have been together for over 62 years. They were true soulmates in every sense of the word and the loves of each other’s lives. Susie enjoyed spending time with Bobby, time with friends and family, tending to her gardens, watching the animals in her beautiful yard and cooking and hosting dinners at her home. No one makes a better banana cream pie. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends and “Good King Wenceslas” will never sound the same.
The family would like to thank Wendy Strowhouer of Compassionate Care Hospice for her continued care of our family. Hospice nurses are true heroes and never seem to receive the credit they so deserve. Thank you, Wendy, from the bottom of our hearts.
A visitation for Susie will take place on Friday, September 15th, 2023 from 10:30-11AM at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home at 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, followed by a funeral service at 11AM. Interment will be private.
