Irma R. Edwards, age 104, of Bear, DE passed away on September 9, 2023. She was born in Moosic, PA, the daughter of Bertha and Otto Stanton. Irma was a homemaker and enjoyed the beach, playing mahjong and bridge, and was a huge Phillies fan. The Philly Phanatic was the entertainment for her 100th birthday party. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida.
Irma was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Thomas G. Edwards, Jr.; and three sisters, Marion Schick, Jean Simpson and Ruth Johnson. She is survived by her two daughters, Judith A. Doughty and Jean E. Ganderton (Roy); her youngest sister, Beryl Carey; four grandchildren, Michael Doughty, Steven Doughty (Kristie), Sandra Karr (Scott); and Bill Dougherty (Ileen); seven great-grandchildren, Bernadett Doughty, Michael Doughty, Jr., Christopher Doughty, Samantha Karr, Madison Karr, Eric Karr, and Ember Dougherty; and one great-great-grandchild, Laila Doughty.
Services for Irma will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16th at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808). Rev. Thomas Edwards will preside. The viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. Burial at Gracelawn Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a donation to Hospice of Delaware, who were very helpful in Irma’s final days.
