Jerry Truitt, age 74, of Elkton, MD, passed away Thursday August 24, 2023. He was born May 1, 1949 in Wilmington, DE to the late Oran Sayers Truitt and Josephine Elizabeth “Betty” Truitt (Howard).
He is survived by his wife Patty Truitt, his sister Debbie Van Doren, son Patrick Guyer and daughter-in-law Terza Guyer along with many well loved cousins. Jerry is predeceased by his son Paul Guyer.
Jerry graduated in 1968 from P.S. DuPont High School in Wilmington, DE.
Jerry spent 38 years working at the DuPont Company wearing many hats and solving problems as lab technician and computer programmer at Chestnut Run, he then “retired” briefly only to start a second career as Public Health Emergency Coordinator at the Cecil County Health Department in Elkton, MD.
Jerry was always involved in something. He had many projects and hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and looked forward each year to his fishing trips with his cousins.
He was actively involved with youth ice hockey for many years and coached the New Castle County Hawks, later to become the Junior Blue Hens for many years. Jerry was many things: An artist, an outdoorsman, an animal lover, a photographer, and a friend to all.
Jerry also enjoyed gazing at the stars through his telescope and his interest in the universe led him to share his knowledge with local libraries in the area. His passion for his hobbies and interests was contagious. He loved to share his knowledge. He lived his life with a strong moral compass based on his faith in Jesus Christ. His spirit of friendship and dedication to those he held close was evident to all. If you were Jerry’s friend you knew you were loved and appreciated, and you knew laughter and fun.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Five Rivers Assembly of God, 290 Whitehall Rd, Elkton, Md 21921. A luncheon will follow.
